Twice, my pastor, has preached about this song which happens to be one of my fave songs:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g50vzZzAja0I love Bon Jovi coz he's so cool, his songs are great and despite being in the showbiz in all its glory and temptations he manages to keep his private/family life intact. I have big respect for those rare people.
I went to his concert in Osaka a few years back. It was my first and only concert I've been to in Japan so far. Though it was a rock concert, the people in Japan were so calm and nice..everyone even seems to move in sync. Not really interesting honestly, but at least it was a really safe rock concert. Then Bon Jovi performance was rather disappointing too.. the songs were not as powerful as I had hoped for.
Anyway, back on the track, the first sermon on this song (2 or 3 years back) I suspected was because Pastor Rob overheard this song as my mobile phone ringtone. Immediately the following week, during bible study, he played this song and talked about it. As I sat there listening to the message, I squinched.. thinking to myself, oh please.. not my song.... It got me right there and I really struggled about it for a few days, until finally I decided to let it go (with very heavy heart) and removed the ringtone from my mobile.
However, that act alone was just the first step to a long renewal process of my life perspective. This is actually one area in my life that I'm still struggling till this day. I'm very aware that our days are numbered and hence I want to live a life of no regret, that when the day comes for me to leave this world, I would look back and not regret every single day of it. Knowing that I've showed my love to people I love and care about, done the things I wanna do, gone to places I wanna go and just lived my life to the fullest. As good as it may sound like, it wasn't what God intends for me. Because that kind of thinking is only self-centered.. me, me, me.. doing things to satisfy my own desires.
Rather, my perspective should be that which is said in Gal 2:20
"I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me."
A purposeful life with eternity set on my mind.. with this mindset, my current problems and tough circumstances seem tiny now..
Finding God's will for my life and living it joyfully and boldly.. so that when the day comes, when I see Him face-to-face, it will be a wonderful glorious day.. I could only imagine..
